In one of the extraordinary County Championship games, Glamorgan fell short of just one run in sealing a record chase in first-class cricket on July 3. The game between both teams ended in a tie at College Ground, Cheltenham.
Batting first, Gloucestershire was bundled out for 179, and then Glamorgan responded by posting 197. Initially trailing by 18 runs, Gloucestershire declared on 610/5 to pose a target of 593.
The Sam Northeast-led side was close to creating history by chasing down the score, with two needed off the final over. However, the final ball of the game saw Glamorgan lose their final wicket and get all-out for 592, thus ending the game in a tie.

The total of 592 by Glamorgan in their second innings against Gloucestershire is now the highest-ever fourth-innings score in a County Championship game.
Previously, Middlesex sealed the biggest chase in the County Championship - scoring 502-6 to beat Nottinghamshire in 1925. In the last season, Surrey chased down 501 to prevail over Kent by six wickets.
One of the 2006 County Championship games witnessed Derbyshire winning by 80 runs, as they dismissed Somerset for 498. In 2023, Sussex secured a 15-run victory, as they bundled out Leicestershire for 483, which ranks fifth in the highest fourth-innings total.
#2 Highest individual fourth-innings score in a tied first-class game
Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast now has the highest individual fourth-innings score in a tied first-class game. He slammed 187 off 277, with 22 fours to keep the team in the hunt to seal a record chase.
Marnus Labuschagne scored 119 off 165 and stitched a terrific 153-run stand with Northeast against Gloucestershire. With this knock, he ranks second on this list.
The veteran Pakistan pacer, Hasan Ali remained unbeaten on 106* off 61 as Central Punjab tied the game against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021.
In the CSA Three-Day Provincial Competition in 2012, Boland skipper Emile Kriek garnered 96 off 156, as they played out a tie against Border.
In September 1986, Sunil Gavaskar scored 90 off 168 balls, as India were all-out for 347 in their bid to chase 348.
#3 Highest fourth-innings total in a tie in first-class cricket
This game was also the highest fourth innings total in a tied game in first-class cricket.
Prior to this game, the 2021 Quaid-e-Azam trophy fixture saw Central Punjab get all-out on 355 against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In 1986, India were set a target of 348 by Australia in Chennai. The Indian side were bundled out for 347, as they lost their final wicket on the penultimate ball of the game.
In 1989, Canterbury failed to chase down the target of 268 against Wellington, as they were bundled out for 267.
