The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GWA) are currently on a roll in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. They have been spotless, winning three out of three games, with their recent triumph coming against Saint Lucia Kings by a 6-wicket margin.

The defending champions, led by Imran Tahir, have a well-rounded unit, packed with various T20 stars. However, it was only recently when the Guyana franchise added another stalwart in their ranks.

England veteran Moeen Ali, who announced his retirement from international cricket recently, has been added to the Guyana team but at the expense of Saim Ayub. The Pakistani opener, who had a great CPL 2023, is unavailable for the ongoing season.

A household name, especially in white-ball cricket, Moeen Ali, will bring all his experience to the fore. The southpaw is a two-time IPL champion. Talking about IPL, Moeen is a well-established name, courtesy of his tenure at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

On that very note, let us take a look at three former or present CSK players who are part of the Guyana Amazon Warriors franchise at CPL 2024.

#1 Imran Tahir

At first is the agless Imran Tahir, who is the leader of Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL. The ever-so wily tweaker has been playing T20 cricket for 18 years now.

While he has played almost across every league there is around the globe, his major success in IPL has come with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for whom Tahir has bagged 35 wickets at an economy rate of 7.11.

Tahir has won two IPL championships with CSK and it was only last year when he weaved his magic to lead Guyana Warriors to their maiden CPL title after the franchise lost five times in the finals.

#2 Dwaine Pretorius

Another former IPL winner with CSK is Dwaine Pretorius. While he was released ahead of IPL 2024, Pretorius is a great utility player in the shortest format of the game, and his 235 T20s are a testament to that.

Although Pretorius has not had success in the IPL, he played seven games for CSK, taking six wickets in them and scoring 44 runs at a strike rate of around 157.

He called time on his international career last year, and is now solely focusing on the T20 leagues around the globe.

#3 Moeen Ali

The latest addition to the Guyana Amazon Warriors franchise, Moeen Ali. Unlike Pretorius, Moeen has been a vital cog for CSK over the years. While he played three seasons for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as well, Moeen is a two-time IPL winner with CSK (2021 and 2023).

In total, Moeen has smashed 853 runs at a strike rate of over 136 and has taken 25 wickets for the Super Kings. For Guyana, the Englishman will add another layer of excitement given his impeccable all-round skills.
