Through the first four weeks of the 2024 college football, a host of prolific quarterbacks are lighting up scoreboards across the nation. With teams making their cases for the 12-team College Football Playoff, a group of elite QBs is defining the college season.
Here are 10 QBs to watch for in Week 5.

#10. Tyler Shough, Louisville
Shough made his way to Louisville via Oregon and Texas Tech. The 6-foot-5 senior has done an excellent job of both making plays and avoiding costly mistakes. This week, No. 15 Louisville (3-0) gets a nice test in No. 16 Notre Dame (3-1).
On the season, Shough has managed to complete 68% of his throws while averaging an aggressive 11.2 yards per pass attempt. That mark is sixth best in the nation. Meanwhile, Shough has 850 passing yards for eight touchdowns against no interceptions.
#9. Will Howard, Ohio State
The Kansas State transfer was brought to Ohio State to get the Buckeyes over the hump and to the title they've been seeking. Howard has been impressive in his general efficiency. This week, he and the No. 3 Buckeyes open Big Ten play against Michigan State.
Howard has completed 69% of his passes on the year while averaging 10.7 yards per pass. He has thrown for 795 yards and six touchdowns against just one interception in OSU's three games. So far, Howard has lived up to his transfer portal billing.
#8. Carson Beck, Georgia
Georgia star Carson Beck has had something of a so-so start to his 2024 season. Beck has completed 68% of his passes, but averaging a pedestrian 8.3 yards per pass. He does have seven touchdowns against no interceptions.
But Beck is here because of his big-game skills, and no game is bigger on the SEC slate than No. 2 Georgia facing No. 4 Alabama. The pressure will be intense, which usually brings out the best in Beck.
#7. Josh Hoover, TCU
Hoover took over TCU's QB role in midseason 2023. The sophomore is putting up astounding numbers this year. The 6-foot-1 sophomore has been staying busy, with 162 passing attempts putting him only three off the lead in the entire nation.
Hoover has completed 69% of his passes for a massive 1,418 yards, which is third most in the nation. He has also managed 11 touchdown passes against just two interceptions. The 2-2 Horned Frogs will need a big game from Hoover this week against Kansas.
#6. Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Like Beck, Heisman hopeful Milroe is already in the spotlight based on this week's big game. So far, Milroe's growth in Kalen DeBoer's Crimson Tide offense has been impressive. He is completing 67% of his throws with a rate of 11.3 yards per pass attempt. Milroe has 590 yards for eight touchdowns against no interceptions and should be ready for Georgia.
#5. Arch Manning, Texas
The talented freshman is apparently going to see more time this week against Mississippi State. Manning has certainly impressed in his time to date. In fact, Manning's 12.3 yards per passing attempt is the third-best in the nation. He has thrown for 576 yards and seven TDs in limited time under center for the top-ranked Longhorns.
#4. Drew Allar, Penn State
Penn State's veteran passer is averaging 12.6 yards per passing attempt, which is second-best in the nation. In PSU's three games, Allar has thrown for 729 yards and eight touchdowns against one pick. No. 9 Penn State has a big showdown with No. 19 Illinois this weekend, and Allar's continued productivity will be key to that game.
#3. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
Sanders is certainly the most hyped passer in the nation, but the electric Colorado bomber is one of the best. Sanders's 1,340 passing yards are the fourth most in the nation. His 11 touchdowns to two interceptions certainly confirm a Heisman-caliber season. He'll need a big game this weekend at UCF.
#2. Cam Ward, Miami
Ward has been one of the best passers around the nation. In leading Miami to the No. 7 ranking, Ward is completing 72% of his passes while throwing for 1,439 yards. Ward is second in the nation in yardage and his 11.7 yards per pass attempt is fourth nationally. Meanwhile, his 14 touchdown passes leads the nation. He'll face Virginia Tech this weekend.
#1. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss
Dart has been an electric QB so far. His 1,554 yards and 13.1 yards per pass attempt are both top in the nation. His 79.8% completion percentage is second nationally. Dart has cooked his preconference competition and he and the No. 6 Rebels will face Kentucky this week.
