Top 10 dynamic CFB QBs to watch out for ahead of 2024 season ft. Jalen Milroe 

When it comes to college football quarterbacks, there's certainly more than one way to succeed. While the traditional pocket passer is a staple of many offenses, some other teams prefer to let their QBs make plays on the fly. The QB run game can be a significant weapon and in the hands of some players, it's downright unstoppable.

Here are 10 dynamic dual-threat QBs to watch for in 2024.

#10. Kyron Drones, Virginia Tech

After transferring in from Baylor, Drones grabbed the VA Tech QB job last year. He passed for 2,084 yards and 17 scores. Drones also added 818 yards and five more scores on the ground. The 6-foot-2 athlete is a capable dual-threat playmaker. With a year of starting experience, he'll probably be even better.

#9. Haynes King, Georgia Tech

King, who battled for the Texas A&M QB job for several years, had an up-and-down season for Tech last year. He passed for 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns but also threw 16 interceptions. Often scrambling for his life, King had 737 rushing yards and 10 more scores on the ground. If he can cut down on mistakes, 2024 could be even more special.

#8. Thomas Castellanos, Boston College

A transfer from UCF, Castellanos was hit-and-miss as a passer for BC in 2023. He threw for 2,248 yards and 15 touchdowns, but also 14 interceptions. But meanwhile, he rushed for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns. BC would love to let Castellanos run more and perhaps throw from a more simplified script in 2024.

#7. KJ Jefferson, UCF

The long-time Arkansas QB moved on to UCF. He threw for 7,911 yards and 67 scores there, while adding 1,876 rushing yards and 21 more scores on the ground. Jefferson might not run quite as much as he used to because of the injury risk, but he's still an accomplished dual-threat passer. He could have a massive 2024 campaign.

#6. Garrett Greene, West Virginia

Greene bided his time on the bench, throwing just 108 passes in his first three seasons at West Virginia. But last year, he passed for 2,406 yards and 16 scores in the air. Greene added 772 yards and 13 scores on the ground. He's a scrambling, freewheeling improviser at QB. At just 5-feet-10, Greene has to be creative and he usually is.

#5. Riley Leonard, Notre Dame

Leonard starred for three seasons at Duke, but is not taking his snaps playing at South Bend. Leonard was great in 2022 but missed much of the 2023 season due to injuries. In his Duke career, Leonard threw for 4,450 yards and 24 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,224 yards and 19 more scores on the ground. Leonard has shown his massive dual-threat abilities and could shine for Notre Dame in 2024.

#4. Jalon Daniels, Kansas

Like Leonard, the issue with Daniels is simply health. In 2022, he was brilliant for Kansas. But injuries have limited him several times, including allowing him to play in just three games last year. For his Kansas career, Daniels has passed for 4,297 yards and 31 scores. He has rushed for another 602 yards and 13 scores. If Daniels can stay upright, he's a dangerous playmaker.

#3. Kaidon Salter, Liberty

Salter might not be a household name, but his play isn't the issue. Hidden at Liberty, Salter passed for 2,876 yards and 32 scores last year. He also ran for 1,089 yards and 12 more scores. Salter easily could have transferred to a bigger school with his two remaining years of eligibility, but elected to stick at Liberty.

#2. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss

After Dart transferred in from USC, he passed for 6,338 yards and 43 scores for Ole Miss in two seasons. He added 1,003 yards and nine more scores on the ground. Lane Kiffin's offense will put Dart in a position to make plenty of plays both in the air and on the ground. Dart could well take the Rebels into the College Football Playoff in 2024.

#1. Jalen Milroe, Alabama

Speaking of CFP-bound teams and players, Milroe's task is to get Alabama back in the Playoff. A season ago, Milroe passed for 2,834 yards and 23 scores. On the ground, he added another 531 yards and 12 scores. How will Kalen DeBoer utilize Milroe's talents in the post-Saban era? It might be the biggest question mark of the 2024 college season.
