TCU Horned Frogs starting quarterback against Utah

Josh Hoover will be continuing his responsibilities as the starting quarterback of the Horned Frogs. This is his third campaign with the team. Last season, Hoover took over as the QB1 of the Horned Frogs after Chandler Morris' injury. He has tallied a total of 2,206 passing yards and 15 TD passes to help Sonny Dykes' team to a 5-7 overall campaign.

This season, Hoover has been impressive with his passing plays. He lacks the speed to be a dual-threat quarterback on the field. But given Dykes' inclination towards a pass-heavy offense, Hoover has been able to fit well into the offensive scheme.

So far this season, he has recorded 2,007 passing yards and 16 TD passes in six games. During their 30-19 loss to Houston, Hoover completed 23-of-37 passes he attempted while putting up 233 passing yards and two TD passes.

Coming out of Rockwall-Heath High School, Hoover committed to play for the TCU Horned Frogs as a part of the recruiting class of 2022. He redshirted his freshman campaign after just making one appearance before getting significant playing time last season. The QB was also honored as a First-Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2023.

During the Big 12 Media Days, Dukes heaped praise on Hoover. He also talked about the expectations he has from the quarterback in his second season with the team. And so far, Hoover is giving his best to live up to those expectations.

"I think Josh has an opportunity to be one of the elite quarterbacks in the league this season. Expect him to play at a high level," Dykes said.

TCU's quarterback depth chart

Apart from Josh Hoover, the Horned Frogs also have other options in their quarterback depth chart. This includes junior QB Ken Seals and freshman Hauss Henjy.

Ken Seals began his collegiate career with the Vanderbilt Commodores. He spent three seasons with them before transferring this offseason. During the 2023 season, Seals played 10 games for the Commodores and put up a total of 1,183 passing yards and 11 TD passes.

This season with TCU, Ken Seals saw limited time on the field during games against SMU and the Long Island University Sharks. He managed to put up one TD pass during their 66-42 loss to the SMU Mustangs.

On the other hand, Hauss Henjy joined the Horned Frogs as a part of the 2024 recruiting class. The former four-star recruit played for Aledo High School and is yet to make his debut on the field.
