SEC Power Rankings after Week 4: Arch Manning's Texas sustain their momentum while Auburn tanks after big loss

The SEC remains atop the pile of college football heading out of Week 4. That's not to say the week didn't offer some significant surprises. Here are the latest rankings of SEC schools after an eventful week of college football.

16. Mississippi State

The Bulldogs took an ugly loss to Florida and lost QB Blake Shapen to a season-ending injury. It looks like the Bulldogs will be in the cellar of the SEC for the duration of 2024.

15. Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt was very close to a victory, which would have substantially jumped them in the rankings over Missouri. Unfortunately, the Commodores couldn't finish it off, so they'll remain near the bottom of the league.

14. Auburn

Auburn had a chance to make a statement in their game with Arkansas, but the statement seemed to be that the Tigers are weak at quarterback and deeply prone to turnovers.

13. Florida

Florida picked up an impressive victory, but it does remain to be seen whether the Gators can put up 45 points and have Graham Mertz look that good against a decent opponent.

12. Kentucky

Kentucky won an easy victory over Ohio University and looked better on offense. But Ole Miss next week is likely to be a much stiffer test for the Wildcats.

11. Oklahoma

Oklahoma had struggled against a few lesser opponents, but still had a chance to deliver a statement victory at home against Tennessee. The takeaway from the game was that QB Jackson Arnold did not look ready for big-time football and Tennessee exploited that weakness.

10. South Carolina

South Carolina got an easy game and looked better than expected without injured QB LaNorris Sellers. The Gamecocks are still a much better team with Sellers than without him.

9. Arkansas

Arkansas might have saved Sam Pittman's job with an important win over Auburn. It's not necessarily a game-changer for the Razorbacks, but it establishes them as a team with a legitimate shot at a bowl game, which was certainly not a given.

8. Texas A&M

The Aggies feel very much like a middle-of-the pack SEC team. They're decent defensively, but will lack the offensive punch to challenge the league's top teams.

7. LSU

The loss of Harold Perkins almost cements that LSU is the best of the rest in the SEC. The six teams ranked above the Tigers all have legitimate College Football Playoff opportunities, but not so much for LSU.

6. Missouri

Missouri has not been impressive at all over the past two weeks. But they get the easiest schedule of any of the SEC's College Football Playoff contenders. The Tigers still have some work to do.

5. Ole Miss

A week ago, Tennessee might have been exactly where the Rebels are—a talented team that's still awaiting decent competition. But the Vols took care of that and moved on up. Will the Rebels do the same?

4. Alabama

Here's the opportunity Alabama has awaited. The Tide have seemingly blended into the pack. Take down Georgia on Saturday and that won't be a problem anymore.

3. Tennessee

The Vol defense looked quite legitimate. The offense certainly is, a few hiccups against Oklahoma aside. Tennessee seems like a team that can go toe-to-toe with Alabama and Georgia, but time will tell.

2. Georgia

They don't always do it with the most flash, but until Georgia doesn't win, they certainly deserve the respect of being right at the top of college football. No doubt, they are a true championship contender.

1.Texas

Texas has looked explosive and brilliant in all phases. Arch Manning has been a perfect alternative for Quinn Ewers. He has been leading the show with great run games and accurate passes. Expect nothing less next week.
