The No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels will host the Kentucky Wildcats at Oxford, Mississippi, this weekend. The SEC clash sees both schools come from diametrically different seasons entering Week 5.
The Rebels hold a perfect 4-0 record and are one of the favorites to earn one of the coveted 12 spots in the College Football Playoff. On the other hand, the Wildcats are 2-2 and have lost both conference matchups against South Carolina and Georgia. It's also important to add that they lost only by a point to No. 1 Georgia in Week 3 (13-12).
Nonetheless, Kentucky clinched an impressive 41-6 victory over the Ohio Bobcats last week. Quarterback Brock Vandagriff had his best game of the season, throwing for 237 yards. As usual, Kentucky proved a force to be reckoned with in the rushing game, with a committee effort recording 206 yards and four touchdowns.
In Week 4, the Rebels defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles 52-13, with quarterback Jaxson Dart having another impressive outing. Dart threw for 382 yards, with four touchdown passes and one interception.
Wide receiver Tre Harris also had an excellent matchup, with 225 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in 11 receptions. The rushing game was almost as impressive, with a team-wide effort of 219 yards. Dart himself ran for 36 yards.
Ole Miss vs. Kentucky head-to-head
As you would expect, being conference rivals, the Rebels and the Wildcats have faced each other quite a few times over the years. The Rebels lead the series 29-13-1. They are also on a three-game winning streak, having won the 2017, 2020 and 2022 encounters.
Last time out, on Oct. 1, 2022, Ole Miss won a home game 22-19. The game was an upset, as the Ole Miss Rebels were ranked No. 11 and the Wildcats No. 7 at the time. Over a decade ago, Kentucky had its last victory in the series. The game was on Nov. 5, 2011. That day, the Wildcats won the game at Lexington 30-13.
The first game of the series was on Sept. 23, 1944, and the Wildcats ran away with it 27-7. The game was played in Lexington, Kentucky.
