"Ole Miss is overrated": CFB World rips apart Lane Kiffin's side after shocking loss to Kentucky

Ole Miss has suffered its first loss of the 2024 college football season. In Week 5, the Rebels were defeated by the inspired Kentucky Wildcats. The college football world had a lot to say about Lane Kiffin's team following the loss:

A fan posted, "They finally played a team with a pulse and got embarrassed at home."

Another added, "Kiffin needs to stop trolling others and actually coach."

Other fans lauded the Wildcats on an impressive win:

A fan posted, "I was saying all week that we can beat anybody in the way we played Georgia. It may be a shock to everyone, but Kentucky has an elite defense and an offense that’s getting better, it seems like."

Another added, "They almost beat Georgia they definitely are a top-12 program this season."

Kentucky leaves it late versus Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels scored the first touchdown of the game early in the first quarter as Henry Parrish Jr. made a touchdown run. The Wildcats had to wait until the second quarter before scoring the first touchdown of the game, with Dane Key receiving a five-yard pass from Brock Vandagriff.

Both sides then exchanged field goals in the third quarter before Tre Harris caught a 48-yard pass from Jaxson Dart to put Ole Miss in prime position heading into the fourth quarter. However, it was at this point that Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops decided to go for broke.

Stoops instructed Brock Vandagriff to chuck it down the field on a fourth down play, and Barion Brown caught the ball for an incredible 63-yard gain. Josh Kattus then made a two-yard run into the end zone for a clutch touchdown with barely two minutes to go. The Rebels couldn't muster a response, and the game ended in a win for the Wildcats.

What next for Ole Miss?

The Ole Miss Rebels must regroup as next up is the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 6. The Gamecocks have a 3-1 record and are fresh off a blowout win against the Akron Zips.

The Gamecocks were led by backup quarterback Robby Ashford, who started in place of LaNorris Sellers. Ashford threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as the Gamecocks routed the Zips, 50-7 on Sept. 21.

Lane Kiffin and team must play significantly better than today to avoid another embarrassing loss. Another defeat would likely end any postseason chances.
