Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are enjoying an open week, so he has had more time to watch other college football games. Like many fans on Saturday, Sanders tuned in to watch the stunning 40-35 upset by Vanderbilt over No. 1-ranked Alabama.

After the game, Sanders took to X to praise Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia. He has a connection to Pavia because he almost decided to join Jackson State when Sanders was coaching the team.

"Diego Pavia.... Bro has an incredible story! He was also supposed to come to jackson state. Good game, you deserve it. Congratulations my brother!"

While this comment looked normal and most people interpreted it as simply giving praise to a player he knows, some Alabama fans took issue with it. One responded to Deion Sanders and said:

"People are making this loss bigger than it is. Alabama will rebound from this but I'm happy for Vanderbilt."

Deion Sanders did not like that the fan interpreted his comment as a shot at Alabama rather than what it was intended to be. He shut down the fan with his reply:

"All i said was congratulations to a dude that was supposed to play for us 2 years ago.. wtf are you talking about?"

What did Diego Pavia do to deserve praise from Deion Sanders?

Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia became a famous name in the college football world overnight when he helped lead the Vanderbilt Commodores to victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was the Commodores' first-ever win over an AP top five ranked opponent.

Pavia, a fifth-year senior and transfer from New Mexico State was one of the most impactful players for the Commodores. He completed 16 of 20 passing attempts and threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he had 20 carries and 56 rushing yards.

Deion Sanders praised Pavia because he was not a ranked high school recruit and started his college career at New Mexico Military Institute. After two years there he transferred to New Mexico State.

When he was choosing schools, it came down to New Mexico State or Jackson State with Deion Sanders.
