Shyheim Brown was one of the five players ruled out by Florida State for the Week 3 game against Memphis. It wasn't clear why the safety was to miss the game as he didn't feature on the team's injury report. The details surrounding why he missed the game have now surfaced.

According to a report from Warchant's Ira Schoffel on Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol arrested Brown in early July for speeding and driving under the influence. His absence from the Memphis game was an internal disciplinary action for his arrest.

The incident led to his transport to the Jefferson County Jail, where he spent the night before being released the following morning after posting a $500 bond.

Details of Shyheim Brown’s arrest, according to Florida Highway Patrol

In a detailed account from the Florida Highway Patrol, Shyheim Brown was observed speeding westbound on Interstate 10 in Jefferson County on the night of July 7.

Authorities reported that Brown was clocked driving a Dodge Charger at an alarming 117 mph in a 70 mph zone, far surpassing the speed limit. The excessive speed raised immediate concerns, contributing to the severity of the charges he faced following the incident.

When Brown was pulled over, FHP Trooper Colby Bethea's report described a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" emanating from the vehicle, immediately raising suspicions of impaired driving. Upon obtaining Brown's consent to search the car, the trooper discovered a nearly empty bottle of tequila, further intensifying concerns.

According to the report, Brown agreed to take a field sobriety test, but his repeated inability to maintain balance during the exercises provided further evidence of potential intoxication.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances, I believed Brown’s normal faculties to be diminished/impaired, and he was placed under lawful arrest for Driving Under the Influence,” Bethea wrote in his report. “Upon placing Brown under arrest, he admitted to having two shots of tequila just two hours prior to this incident.”

Shyheim Brown is awaiting court case in October

Shyheim Brown is scheduled to appear in court in October for the charges arising from the incident. He will appear for the misdemeanor DUI charge on Oct. 8 and the speeding ticket on Oct. 11.

The attorney representing Brown has entered a not-guilty plea for both charges. The court dates are not expected to affect his time on the gridiron for Florida State as they fall on a bye week following the game against Clemson in Week 6.
