The No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels will face the South Carolina Gamecocks in a Week 6 meeting between one-loss SEC programs. Ole Miss began the year with four consecutive blowout victories over the FCS-level Furman Paladins, Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Georgia Southern Eagles.

They were dominant on both sides in every matchup, as their lowest margin of victory was 34. The Rebels' average margin of victory was 49.5 points per game, outscoring their opponents 220-22. However, it was a different story in their Week 5 SEC opener as they suffered a 20-17 home loss to the Kentucky Wildcats following a go-ahead touchdown with 2:25 left.

South Carolina began the season by barely defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs. They were even more impressive the next week when they dominated the Kentucky Wildcats in their SEC debut. The Gamecocks' next meeting was in Death Valley when they nearly stunned the then-16th-ranked LSU Tigers.
