Impact on LSU's defense: How ZY Alexander's absence affects the team

ZY Alexander looked winded after the hit that resulted in his exit from the game. It's too early to tell just how long he'll be out of action, but it's important to note that chest injuries aren't something to gloss over.

Alexander will be properly attended to and he'll be required to pass a series of tests before he's allowed to come back to action.

In the meantime, LSU must find a way to resolve his absence. Players like Johnson and PJ Woodland are decent short-term replacements. However, if LSU is to fulfill its preseason expectations, it'll need to be luckier with injuries in the current campaign.

Alexander is one of a handful of LSU starters dealing with injuries so early in the season. Hopefully, the Tigers will figure out a fix soon.

ZY Alexander suffered a season ending injury in 2023

ZY Alexander joined the LSU Tigers after a three-year stint at Southeastern Louisiana. He started the first eight games of the season at cornerback before suffering a season-ending injury while making an interception return against Army.

Before his injury, Alexander was arguably LSU’s top cover corner for the first eight games of the 2023 season. He transitioned smoothly from the FCS to LSU.

Alexander finished his injury-shortened debut season at LSU with 44 tackles, 7 pass breakups and 2 interceptions.

LSU Tigers fans will hope to see more of the form that made him a two-time First-Team All-Southland Conference member, and 2021 All-American nod. He was recruited due to his cover skills, and it'll be interesting to see how LSU replaces him in the meantime.
