A week after the injury, the coaching staff has not given an official update on McCall and he did not play in NC State’s Week 4 59-35 loss to No. 17-ranked Clemson. His injury has not been disclosed.

Coach Dave Doeren talked about Grayson McCall's injury

Dave Doeren said on Sept. 16 that they are going to be patient until McCall is ready to play again.

"With Grayson, I'm not going to get into the injury," Doeren said. "It's good news on him. It's a day-to-day thing. We're going to take our time, and when he's ready, he'll be ready. CJ [Bailey] is ready to play and he's our quarterback until that happens, and we're behind him."

He also praised CJ Bailey for his resilience and consistency as well as discussed his difference from other freshmen.

"Every time we've put him in a challenging situation he's been the same guy. He's been consistent. He's been uplifting. He's had energy. Bounces back if something happens. He's very coachable."
"Those are habits," Doeren added. "You always fall back on your habits. It's about not rising to the occasion -- I saw someone write that -- that's not what happens. The guys return to the habits that they've created. He has a lot of winning habits."

When will Grayson McCall return?

The coaching staff has not told the media when fans should expect McCall to return to the lineup. He has missed one game so far and remains listed as questionable on the NC State injury report. Given his status, it could mean that he is not going to be out long-term. However, without any knowledge of what the injury is, it is hard to speculate.

CJ Bailey took over McCall's spot against Clemson and went 16-of-25 for 204 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The NC State Wolfpack will host the Northern Illinois Huskies in Week 5 action on Saturday. If Grayson McCall will not be able to play, Bailey is expected to be the team's starting QB once again.
