The SEC expansion has been one of the major theories that have been floating around conference realignment. One of the bigger fits that people have been putting together is the SEC obtaining the Florida State Seminoles. However, it appears the conference may have other plans.

While making an appearance on The Next Round Live, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the conference is not interested in adding the Seminoles right now.

"We are really focused on our 16 [members]. Our presidents have said pretty clearly that we're not going to get entangled in legal issues around any consideration of expansion, so it's not a conversation. We're not gonna take our pie and slice it into more pieces, we have to grow the pie."

This creates a bit more leverage for the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences if they are interested in adding the Florida State Seminoles. The SEC expansion seemingly has just been shut down by commissioner Greg Sankey.

With SEC expansion out of the picture, where do the Florida State Seminoles wind up?

The SEC expansion for the Florida State Seminoles felt a bit farfetched with the conference already having the Florida Gators as their attraction to Florida recruits. However, the Seminoles still want out of the Atlantic Coast Conference and it seems like they will be going to either the Big 12 or Big Ten.

The Big 12 makes more sense if the conference does wind up with private equity to help incentivize the school to join their league. The Big Ten has just become more national and dipping their toe into the southeastern United States could be difficult as they are in SEC country.

SEC expansion is completely ruled out by Sankey's comments and so, it is now about which conference values Florida State more and that seems to be the Big 12. The Big Ten has reportedly been focused on adding AAU-accredited schools and the Seminoles do fit into that mold.

Florida State could be paired with the Clemson Tigers and joining the Big 12 Conference seemingly makes the most sense for conference realignment.
