Utah starting QB against Arizona State in week 7

Kyle Whittingham is expected to provide an update on their injured quarterback Cam Rising in this week's media availability. Rising injured himself against Baylor and has missed four weeks of football, rehabilitating from this injury.

If he is sidelined for the game against Arizona State, then freshman QB Isaac Wilson will be the starting QB for the Utes in Week 7. Wilson has made three starts in Rising's absence. He has passed for 830 yards and six TD passes while throwing seven interceptions.

While Wilson's performance has not been consistent, Whittingham still has faith in his freshman. He talked about how the QB needs to continue improving on his game.

"His entire game just needs to continue to get tighter and better," Whittingham said. "But there's not any one glaring area where you can say he's really lacking in this or that. He's a freshman-a true freshman. There's going to be a learning curve, there's going to be mistakes made that you're going to have to live with."

Coming out of Corner Canyon High School, Isaac Wilson committed to playing for Utah as a part of the 2024 recruiting class. He is the brother of Denver QB Zach Wilson.

Utah Utes' quarterback depth chart

Initially, Isaac Wilson was the backup to Cam Rising for the 2024 season. Bradon Rose is the backup QB to Wilson. Rose has been a part of the Utes since 2022 but has not had any substantial playing time on the field.

The QB depth chart also includes Sam Huard as an option. Huard began his collegiate career with Washington in 2021. After two years, he transferred to Cal Poly and became their QB1 last season. Huard transferred to the Utes this offseason and is yet to make his debut.
