Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy this season. But, his chances are getting slimmer each week due to the actions of another player.

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year. But, this is something that Hunter does not think should happen.

During his apperance on the "Outta Pocket" podcast with Robert Griffin III, Hunter said this about his Heisman competition:

“I mean y’all see Ashton Jeanty, it’s not like we haven’t seen a running back that’s good. We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways, and I’m gonna keep saying that.”

Both Hunter and Jeanty are having impressive seasons.

Jeanty is currently the best running back in college football. In the six games so far that Jeanty has played this season, he has 1,248 rushing yards from 126 carries, scoring 17 touchdowns.

He is on course to break Barry Sanders' 1988 season record (2,628 yards), and by doing this, could be able to become the first running back since Derrick Henry to win the award.

The case for Travis Hunter to win the Heisman Trophy

Travis Hunter has also a good start. His is a dual-position player, playing both as a wide receiver and as a cornerback.

This season, Hunter has 587 yards from 49 catches, scoring six touchdowns. On defense, Hunter has recorded 16 tackles in six games, which includes the game-winning tackle against the Baylor Bears.

However, unlike Jeanty, he plays on both sides of the ball, meaning that he is on the field for most of the game.

While the Buffaloes are not as dependent on Hunter as the Broncos are on Jeanty, Hunter asked on the podcast what would happen if he had the same number of touches as Jeanty had.

"He (Ashton Jeanty) has, I think, 95 carries for 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how much yards you think I’d have? If I had 95 targets on defense what you think I’d have? If I had 95 catches on offense, what do you think I’d have?”

The truth is that both Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter are fantastic players and will both benefit whichever NFL team they are eventually drafted by.

In relation to the Heisman Trophy, both players have to keep their current form up. One poor game could be the difference between winning the Heisman Trophy and not.
