The victory for Brian Kelly’s Tigers was tough, with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier playing hero. He connected with Kyren Lacy for a game-winning 25-yard touchdown in overtime.

Nussmeier’s clutch play sealed LSU’s 2-0 start in SEC play, leaving Ole Miss reeling with a 1-2 conference record. Earlier in the game, Ole Miss was cruising toward an easy win. LSU place kicker Caden Davis nailed a 57-yard field goal in overtime to briefly give the Rebels hope, but the Tigers refused to back down.

After a tense back-and-forth, LSU’s offense came through in the clutch, tying the game with just 27 seconds left in regulation. This dramatic win has LSU improving to a 5-1 overall record.

Lane Kiffin can't get over LSU loss

Some losses just hit hard, and the loss to the LSU Tiger in overtime was one such loss for the Ole Miss coach. Despite leading for most of the game, the Rebels couldn’t finish the job, falling 29-26.

The defeat dropped Ole Miss to 5-2 on the season, a serious blow to their playoff hopes. Kiffin didn’t hold back his frustration in the post-game conference, saying:

“This sucks, guys. I feel for you, and you have a bye so you don’t get to play again. I don’t have a lot of positive for you. It’s easier to get beat by a couple of scores but this is like our game over half of the game and we let it slip away. These are hard. This one will be around forever.”

Missed opportunities plagued the Rebels throughout the game. A dropped touchdown, a missed 32-yard field goal and a turnover on downs inside the five-yard line were just a few of the costly errors.
