Lane Kiffin, the popular coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, was wooed by the Auburn Tigers a year ago, an offer he considered before deciding to stay at his job and delivering his second 10-win season.

College football analyst Neal McCready explained on "That SEC Podcast" why the charismatic Kiffin considered the Auburn job and why he ultimately turned it down despite it being the more attractive option.

"I think he seriously considered Auburn," McCready said. "I know some people out there that go 'That was never real; it was a media made-up thing,' that's total bulls**t, it was real. I think he was really serious about that job.

"There was an old school paradigm that was involved. Auburn wanted him. Historically, there's no debate that Auburn's a better job than Ole Miss, but we're living in a new era. The old way that we judge things no longer applies."

He then discussed a potential reason why the $14 million worth Lane Kiffin (according to Celebrity Net Worth) rejected the Auburn Tigers, and it had a connection with the Alabama Crimson Tide job.

"If you ever take the Auburn job, you're never getting the Alabama job," McCready said. "He was never going to fit at Auburn. They were always going to want him to do the War Eagle stuff. He wasn't gonna do all that stuff. It's not Lane."

Lane Kiffin convinced by daughter to stay at Ole Miss

Although he has criticized the NIL system in place in college sports and its interaction with the transfer portal allowing players to move programs regularly, Lane Kiffin has mastered using both tools.

One of the reasons that he decided to stay at Ole Miss was the belief that the current transfer system was a big equalizer that would allow him to get quality recruits who would reduce the gap between the Rebels and other top teams.

Landry Kiffin, the Rebels coach's daughter who attends Ole Miss, apparently also convinced him to turn down the Auburn Tigers job and stay in his current position.

“When Landry asked me to stay at Ole Miss for her, I did," Kiffin said. "When she asked me to get on stage for her, I did. High school graduation party in the backyard.
“I’ve made a lot of decisions in my life based on what served me first. That’s where the major change came, realizing it’s not about me, it’s about (Landry).”

Ole Miss fans will be glad to have Landry Kiffin on their side after posting their second 10-win season during the current coach's tenure.
