Lane Kiffin praises Kentucky’s defense

Following the brilliant start to the 2024 season, Ole Miss begins its conference play in Week 4. The Rebels are scheduled to host Kentucky in Oxford in what is expected to be the team's first real test and Lane Kiffin has a lot of respect for the Wildcats defense.

“They have really good length on defense, great size," Kiffin said. "I think that it's happened to us and a lot of people: when you don't have size and length on defense, you struggle over the last few years with Georgia or Alabama before that.
“They very much look like an NFL defense from structure and a size standpoint and coverages and techniques. That's why a lot of people struggle against them and games seem a lot more like NFL games. It's hard to make yards and hard to run the ball.”

Ole Miss has blown out all its opponents so far this season, climbing up to No. 6 on the AP Poll. The team will hope to maintain the momentum as it seeks a playoff spot.

Lane Kiffin believes the Kentucky game will reveal a lot

Ole Miss has seen its offense and defense perform well so far in the ongoing season. However, the four games were all against weaker opponents, who couldn't match up with the Rebels.

Ahead of the game against Kentucky, Lane Kiffin remains cautious in making any grand declarations about the team's overall strength. While he believes they have the potential to be very good, he acknowledges there is still much to prove.

“I think we're going to find out more starting Saturday," Kiffin said in media availability on Monday. "No disrespect, but statistically, the defenses we've played have struggled this year, so we're going to find out a lot more about that.
“That's why I'm not making big statements about where we're ranked or how good we are on offense or defense. I've said we've got a chance to be really elite and really good, but we're going to have to prove that against bigger and better players.”

In Kentucky’s last game before embarking on a bye week, Georgia had to fight back to secure a 13-12 win in Week 3. The Wildcats will hope to maintain the momentum when they travel to Oxford to play the Rebels this weekend.
