The LSU Tigers have had a couple of strong seasons under coach Brian Kelly. In 2023, the team had another 10-win season, and their quarterback, Jayden Daniels, won the Heisman Trophy.

But in 2024, the Tigers are without Daniels and their star wide receiver, Malik Nabers. Will this season be as successful as their previous ones despite the missing stars?

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has predicted that the LSU Tigers will win eight games this season. Alternatively, Fan Duel is more enthusiastic in its predictions of how the Tigers will fare this year, predicting nine wins.

Both of these projections tell us that LSU is going to have a slightly worse season than in previous years.

This may be a reaction to the absence of Daniels and Nabers in the team. While quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has shown some good performances, he may not live up to the heights of his predecessor.

However, it is not the offense that the Tigers need to worry about this campaign. The defense struggled last season and was one of the lowest-performing defenses in all of college football last year. This has not rapidly improved and could cause a lot of problems for Brian Kelly this year.

Who are the LSU Tigers playing this season?

The LSU Tigers will play the following teams this season:

  • USC Trojans
  • Nicholls Colonels
  • South Carolina Gamecocks
  • UCLA Bruins
  • South Alabama Jaguars
  • Ole Miss Rebels
  • Arkansas Razorbacks
  • Texas A&M Aggies
  • Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Florida Gators
  • Vanderbilt Commodores
  • Oklahoma Sooners

Which SEC Programs could the LSU Tigers struggle against?

The schedule the LSU Tigers have this season is generally easy for them but there are a few games that could cause the team some issues.

The first is against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite the coaching change and the exit of some key players, the Crimson Tide is still one of the stronger teams in the SEC. It still has the services of quarterback Jalen Milroe, and he should be able to take Alabama to victory against the questionable defense of the Tigers.

The other team that may cause LSU some problems is the Ole Miss Rebels. In their 2023 matchup, both teams played similarly and it turned out to be a high-scoring game which the Rebels won 55-49.

2024 is a different story. Ole Miss is on the rise, and heading into the season as the sixth-ranked team in the country. If things go their way, the Rebels could even challenge for a spot in the SEC championship game.
