Cam Coleman has been impressive for Auburn this season, lighting up his college career very early. The freshman wide receiver has so far lived up to the billing after he was recruited as the highest-rated recruit for the Tigers and the No. 5 prospect in the class of 2024.

His performance on the Auburn offense has led many to inquire whether he is related to former Michigan and Florida State standout wide receiver Keon Coleman. However, despite the similarity in their last name and playing positions on the field, the two have no biological link.

Cam Coleman is the son of former Alabama State football player Bob Coleman and was born in Phenix City, Alabama in 2006. Keon Coleman, who was born in 2003, comes from a different family background as he was born and brought up in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Kirby Smart has high praise for Cam Coleman

Ahead of Auburn’s Week 6 game against Georgia, Cam Coleman has caught the attention of Kirby Smart.

In his media availability earlier this week, the Bulldogs coach praised the performance of Coleman alongside his fellow freshman wide receiver Malcolm Simmons.

“Fast, athletic, great size,” Smart said of Simmons and Coleman. “I mean, they were phenomenal players coming out. They both have special attributes in terms of ball skills, playmaking ability, speed, dynamic receivers.
“And those guys, you want to catch them when they’re young. You want to catch them when they’re early in the season, not as they’re getting seasoned vets of the SEC. You can see these guys growing up on tape as they make more of them play.”

Auburn coach Hugh Freeze will be hoping both Coleman and Simmons are able to provide the Georgia defense a tough time when they square up in Athens on Saturday. Both teams are coming off a loss and are hoping to bounce back in the Week 6 SEC encounter.

Cam Coleman’s injury update

Cam Coleman has been dealing with the effects of a shoulder sprain early in the season. However, he did play last week against Oklahoma, hauling in three catches for 82 yards.

Coleman initially injured his shoulder late in Auburn's Week 2 matchup against Cal, which caused him to miss the Week 3 game against New Mexico. However, he made his return to the field in Week 4 during Auburn's loss to Arkansas.

The freshman wideout also participated in the Tigers' Week 5 game against Oklahoma, showing his resilience despite the earlier injury setback. Nonetheless, such injuries are tricky and could flare up with any aggravation.
