Florida State University alum Warrick Dunn, who played for the Seminoles from 1993-96, was inducted into the 2024 College Hall of Fame during the National Football Foundation’s On-Campus Salute ceremony. Dunn is also an NFL legend, having played 12 seasons in the professional league.
Following the big moment, the Florida State football program doubled down on the honor by giving a well-deserved shoutout to the 49-year-old football legend at the Doak Campbell Stadium.
Dunn found his pictures on the stadium's jumbotron display during the week 6 ACC standoff between the Florida State Seminoles and the Clemson Tigers. One picture celebrated the legendary RB's big moment, while the other showed his family posing together.
The Seminoles honored the legendary defensive player by retiring his jersey in 1997 when he was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Warrick Dunn was the 12th overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft.
He had two stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1997-2001 and in 2008, along with a five-year run with the Atlanta Falcons starting in 2002.
Warrick Dunn’s contributions to Florida State Seminoles and the football community
The Baton Rouge native has an immeasurable effect on the football community, both on and off the field. He was a distinguished player for his Florida-based alma mater, where he became the first player to rush for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. He also earned the Freshman All-American award in 1993 and First-team All-America honors in 1996.
He appeared in 41 games over his three-year run, rushing for 3,959 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also managed 132 receptions for 1,314 yards and 12 touchdowns to his name. The Seminoles legend was also an accomplished sprinter who played for Florida State athletics during all four years of his enrollment.
After retiring from the NFL, Warrick Dunn has continued giving back through initiatives like Homes for the Holidays, established in 1997. Dunn has touched many lives, believing that providing families with a positive home environment can help many children prosper.
One such prominent name is Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns quarterback, who found a family through Dunn’s initiative and won the national championship with the Clemson Tigers in 2017.
