The Auburn Tigers are in a bit of trouble as they enter Week 7 of the college football season with a 2-4 (0-3 SEC) record. They are winless in their first three conference games for the second consecutive season, signaling a potentially lost season for coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.

Following Saturday's 31-13 road loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, Freeze emphasized his focus on trying to turn things around, especially since the team does not play in Week 7.

"Well truthfully, I expect more fight than we saw for the 60 minutes today," Hugh Freeze said (per On3). "I told them that in the locker room, I mean it, and it's my job to get that out of them, and I'm going to die trying. We're going to get it turned and going to find the ones who want to fight for 60 minutes."

Freeze continued and explained how the coaching needs to step up, especially as the roster is young and is capable of making simple mistakes due to their inexperience.

"But it really goes back to us coaching better and we're playing a lot of young kids out there. I mean we got Kensley Faustin out there tonight and he's lined up outside tip of a receiver on third down and he needed to be inside tip. And those are the things that I keep feeling like we're doing to ourselves." h/t On3

This is going to be something to monitor as their remaining schedule looks tough:

  • 10/19: at 21 Missouri
  • 10/26: at Kentucky
  • 11/2: vs. Vanderbilt
  • 11/16: vs. UL Monroe
  • 11/23: vs. 15 Texas A&M
  • 11/30: at 7 Alabama

Is Hugh Freeze on the hot seat?

While some are voicing their opinions about Hugh Freeze's job security, it appears that Freeze is not on the hot seat. He is under contract through January 2029 with a base salary of $6.5 million. With the contract being signed in November 2022, it would be surprising to see the two sides split just a few years into the contract.

This is Freeze's second year focused on changing the culture at Auburn, and while the fanbase may not be thrilled with the team's current performance, don't expect another coaching change despite the 8-11 record with the Tigers.
