Ohio State has had a host of great talent in its wide receiver room over the years and Jeremiah Smith is the latest on the list. A few games into the season, the former five-star prospect wide receiver is already showing why he was the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2024 for the Buckeyes.

In a post by CBS Sports College Football on X, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who is Jeremiah Smith's cousin, believes the freshman has the potential to become the greatest wide receiver ever.

“I’ve seen a lot of great receivers and I’ve also had the chance to watch JJ since he was about 10 years old,” Geno Smith said. “He’s going to be the best receiver ever. I really believe that.”

Geno Smith’s reaction to Jeremiah Smith’s college debut

Jeremiah Smith's college debut didn’t start so well. He recorded a drop early in the game but quickly bounced back and demonstrated his immense potential. Geno Smith acknowledges the early misstep of the young talent while commending his overall performance in the game.

“I thought he started out a little slow. I know he wants to catch that first one. He would’ve scored on that one, too. Let’s go JJ,” Geno said. “But great debut. I thought he did great. He was born with the talent. But he’s putting the work in and he’s ready. He’s ready right now.”

Geno Smith also described the scene inside his family's house after watching his cousin Jeremiah score his first touchdown in college football.

“Man, I was in the house, I was watching the whole game. And he caught that first touchdown, man, I jumped right out of my seat,” Geno said. “The whole house was going crazy, man. And it was good to see that. I thought he had a heck of a game.”

Jeremiah was equally brilliant in Ohio State's Week 2 game against Western Michigan. He recorded five receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown to help the Buckeyes secure a 56-0 win. Keeping the momentum will be crucial for his team this season.
