Former Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen has reportedly drawn interest from a Big 12 team, with just under a month before the 2024 college football season begins. The TCU Horned Frogs have placed Holgorsen under the radar for a consultant role on the team's staff, as per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Holgorsen has been out of a job since Houston parted ways with him in November 2023. If he joins TCU, he will become the third FBS head coach hired by Sonny Dykes to join his staff this offseason. The Horned Frogs hired former Boise State head coach Andy Avalos as their defensive coordinator and ex-Nevada head coach Ken Wilson as their linebackers coach.

The Horned Frogs had an underwhelming 2023 season. They finished 10th in the Big 12 with a 5-7 record, failing to qualify for a bowl game. There are signs that TCU needs some experienced members in its backroom staff to lift the program heading into Dykes' third year as head coach.

Notably, Holgorsen and Dykes have worked together in the past. They had stints at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2006 under Mike Leach. The duo also coached the Red Raiders' wide receivers and shared offensive coordinator duties in 2005 and 2006.

Earlier this year, there were suggestions that Holgorsen could join Nebraska as a consultant for the program. However, he could now be more inclined to reunite with his former colleague.

Dana Holgorsen worked as an assistant coach at several programs before landing his first head coaching job at West Virginia before the 2011 season. He achieved instant success with the Mountaineers, winning the Big East championship in his first year with the team.

Holgorsen spent eight seasons at West Virginia and posted a 61-41 record.

Before the 2019 season, Holgorsen was appointed as the head coach of the Houston Cougars. He managed a 31–28 record with the team before parting ways with the program in November last year.
