Florida State and the Clemson Tigers have been entangled in legal proceedings with the ACC, trying to pave a way out of the conference to begin a new journey altogether. The recent conference realignment has shaken up teams quite a bit, and the 2024 college football season will be the debut for many schools in their new conferences.

Last year, Florida State sued the ACC over its grants of rights and also for waiving its exit fees to make an early exit from the conference. However, in June, Florida State athletic director Michael Alford made it clear that the Seminoles would be a part of the ACC through the 2025-26 season.

On the other hand, former Florida Gators coach Steve Spurrier believes that the Seminoles are a good fit to join the SEC. During a recent episode of "A Peek Inside Florida Gators Football" podcast, Spurrier made clear that both FSU and Clemson are worthy additions to arguably the toughest conference in college football.

"I think FSU definitely belongs to the SEC. But Clemson also belongs there also," Spurrier said. "But I don't know if the SEC wants to go to 18 teams. So I don't know, maybe the Big Ten would like to have them. Who knows? But it is what it is. I think you just go one year at a time and then after that see where you're going at and go from there."

Last season, the Seminoles put up an impressive run and went on to become the undefeated ACC champions. Unfortunately for them, with the season-ending injury that QB1 Jordan Travis suffered, they were snubbed from a College Football Playoff spot, ending their campaign with an Orange Bowl loss at the hands of Kirby Smart's Georgia.

Steve Spurrier believes in Florida State and Clemson's capabilities on the field

On the podcast, the Gators legend further elaborated that both FSU and Clemson would win conference titles in the ACC. But given their improvements and winning caliber, the next two to three years could be when they find themselves playing in another conference.

"They (FSU) would do very well the way they played last year. And I think Clemson would do pretty well," Steve Spurrier said. "So, again, they would do better in the ACC as far as winning conference championships, but they want to play big-time and I think within maybe two to three years they will be in a different conference."

It will be interesting to see how the future pans out for Florida State in the days ahead.
