The four-star EDGE chose the Tigers over teams like USC, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Georgia, and others. 247Sports ranked Smith as the No.4 player in Alabama state for the class of 2025. Coming out of Thompson High School, the 6-foot-6, 235 lbs Jared Smith is one of the four top five in-state recruits that have committed to play for the Auburn Tigers.

During an interview with On3 on Saturday, the four-star EDGE opened up about what led to him choosing the Tigers over teams like the Georgia Bulldogs. He stated that he believes in the vision that Hugh Freeze has for the program and wants to be a part of this vision. Apart from this, committing to Auburn also lets him stay in-state close to home.
"Staying in state with Auburn has always been a real option for me," Smith said (per On3). Auburn has always been in the picture for me, but the closer I got to my senior year is really when I started thinking more about staying in my home state. This summer, I started feeling like I wanted to stay home, and now I am with Auburn."
"I chose Auburn because I get to stay home, because of the culture and I see the vision coach Hugh Freeze has. I see where the program is going and I want to be a part of it. It was a tough decision, and I had six great options. But Auburn took the No.1 spot at the wire."
