Diego Pavia once lightheartedly broached the idea of transferring to Vanderbilt with coach Clark Lea

On Wednesday, in an interview on “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Diego Pavia shared how he once jokingly mentioned transferring to Vanderbilt with coach Clark Lea (coach at Vanderbilt since 2021). After changing his major to graduate from New Mexico State, he could enroll at Vanderbilt as a graduate student. But the quarterback humorously pointed out that he didn't really need a graduate degree.

“In order for me to come to Vanderbilt, I had to graduate from New Mexico State,” Pavia said [H/t On3]. “And I was doing my biology degree at New Mexico State but in order to graduate and come here to Vanderbilt, I had to change my degree to individualized studies.

“So, when I talk about all eggs in one basket, it’s all eggs in one basket. It’s like my last time. And I told Coach Lea when I first got here, ‘It’s my last year, I graduated. I don’t need to go to class. It’s just football.'”

Pavia’s decision wasn’t solely because of Lea. His former head coach at New Mexico State, Jerry Kill, and offensive coordinator Tim Beck, played huge roles in his choice to come to Nashville. According to the quarterback, Kill was a major factor in his decision, along with Beck.
