The Colorado Buffaloes' happy run ended, as Deion Sanders' unit suffered a narrow 31-28 defeat to the No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats last week to fall to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12.
After starting the season with a win over ND State, the Buffs fall flat against Matt Rhule's Nebraska in Week 2. Since then, they were on a three-game winning streak until last week's defeat.
This hot and cold performance has Colorado players feeling down once again. Good thing for them: they have got the best inspiration in Coach Prime, who, after every defeat, tries to fire up his players.
"Some of you started believing what they said about you, and I tried to warn you," Sanders said. "I tried to warn you last week: you are not that guy. The only way you're going to be that guy is by practicing life. It's our challenge, our priority, and our responsibility to win. I have a quote: fans only blow when you're hot. Some of you started believing what they said about you, which was a huge mistake.
"Now, they uplift you, and you understand that fans only blow when you're hot. They're not blowing right now, are they? They're questioning you, doubting you, talking about you like a dog, but you go and see what they say. I'll tell you what they say: they say you aren't who they thought you were."
Adding more to it, Deion Sanders emphasized sweating the loss out in practice and not letting critics mock them going forward.
"It starts in practice. We can tell you over and over again: if he doesn't see it in practice, he's not going to call it in the game," Coach Prime said.
Deion Sanders thinks Shio played "horrible" on his return
Deion Sanders' son and Colorado safety Shilo Sanders returned to Folsom Fields after going down with an arm injury earlier in the season. On his return to game action in last week's game against the Wildcats, Shilo made just six tackles and assisted in one.
After the game, Coach Prime didn't mince words while assessing Shilo's performance:
“I thought he played horrible,” Sanders said, per On3. "I thought he was rusty. I thought he didn’t have his footing. I thought he wasn’t breaking down.
"He was coming up trying to make the play but open field, one-on-one tackle, with that kind of back, that ain’t an easy task. But he’s gonna do better. I know what he has in him.”
Going down 2-1 in Big 12, Deion Sanders & Co. will need to win most games from now on if they aspire to make the 12-team College Football Playoff.
