There's an update on the ACC conference realignment as the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles are seeking a way out of the conference and find a new home for the 2025 college football season. According to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellinger, Florida State and the conference are to begin a mediation process regarding a potential exit next week.

Dellinger's report mentions that the deadline for any team to leave the conference is August 15, which is next Tuesday. However, it's believed that Florida State and Clemson may not give notice due to the hefty financial penalties tied to the Grant of Rights Agreement, which would cost the schools over half a billion dollars.

While this update isn't anything new since the deadline comes up every year, the mediation between Florida State and the Atlantic Coast Conference is a new development that might potentially help resolve their legal battle.

Does the ACC conference realignment update make things more clear?

This news suggests that with the deadline less than a week away, there may be a solution that allows both Clemson and Florida State to leave the conference on their own terms.

The year-long ongoing legal battle could be settled out of court, as the in-person discussion in the presence of a neutral mediator might avoid the need for a judge's ruling. The mediator has reportedly been chosen, however, the conference and the program both declined to comment on the situation as per Dellinger.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has received a lot of unwanted criticism for how the situation has all played out, and while it has shown no signs of resolving the lawsuit with a settlement, this is a chance to get some positive public relations.
