There have been some bold predictions in college football with the Pac-12's sorry state of affairs still a raging topic. Some people believe that Washington State & Oregon State joining the Big 12 expansion could be on the horizon in the next wave of the conference realignment.

College football insider Greg Swaim posted on social media about how there is potential for Washington State and Oregon State to join the Big 12 expansion.

This is worth monitoring as it was believed that the two Pac-12 schools wanted to try and rebuild the conference.

Swaim also mentioned that the Big 12 expansion was focused on getting to a superconference of 24 members. The Oregon State Beavers and the Washington State Cougars could be on the list, but it will be interesting to see if they make the jump and cause the Pac-12 to disband.

Does it make sense for Washington State and Oregon State to join the Big 12 expansion?

If Washington State and Oregon State join the Big 12 expansion, it would imply that their current conference failed to recruit enough programs to join them in conference realignment. That is a possibility as teams leaving a stable conference for the Pac-12 right now would ultimately be a risky proposition.

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark is looking to compete with the likes of the Big Ten and the SEC in terms of relevancy to the average viewer and getting these two schools to join would go a long way towards it. Adding two West Coast schools would strengthen the Big 12's fortress. Hence, the move does make a lot of sense for both sides.
