College football insider Kirk Herbstreit has made some bold predictions ahead of the 2024 season. The analyst claimed that a team recently added to the Southeastern Conference could be a strong contender to reach the playoffs.

On Wednesday, Herbstreit appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and was asked for his "sleeper" pick that would qualify for the 12-team College Football Playoff this year.

“I’ll say Oklahoma if you’re talking like as a stretch,” Herbstreit said. “I think people are sleeping a little bit on Oklahoma because there’s so much talk about them going, ‘You’ll see what it’s like in the SEC, Oklahoma. Good luck.’ They’ve got a really young quarterback (Jackson Arnold) that they’re high on, playing in their bowl game last year. I like Coach V, and I think he creates toughness in a football team.”

Oklahoma and Texas are the two teams that joined the SEC this year after leaving the Big 12.

Jackson Arnold will lead Oklahoma's offense in 2024. He was named as the starting quarterback for the Sooners after Dillon Gabriel transferred to Oregon in the offseason.

Notably, the 2024 season will also be the third year for Brent Venables in charge of Oklahoma. He has a 16-10 record with the program thus far, including a 10-3 record from last season.

While speaking about the upcoming football season and more on The Pat McAfee Show, Kirk Herbstreit made an early prediction for Dan Lanning's Oregon to go all the way and win the national title in the 2024 season.

"Look out for old Oregon," Herbstreit said. "Look out for the old Oregon Ducks. I may have Oregon winning it all."

Oregon posted a 12-2 record last season, which included winning the Fiesta Bowl. The Ducks lost both games in 2023 against Washington, who finished as the runner-up to the national title.

Nonetheless, Lanning's team looked well-oiled in offense and defense. The coach will aim to fine-tune his tactics in the 2024 season to potentially win Oregon its first national championship.
