Former USC Trojans running back Reggie Bush has had to fight a long battle to get his Heisman Trophy back after vacating it over a decade-and-a-half ago. The Heisman Trust made the decision to reinstate his Heisman in April and corrective measures are still being applied.

The Trojans have moved quickly to honor their former running back, who won the Heisman in 2005. On Thursday, the program retired Bush's No. 5 jersey alongside fellow Heisman Trophy winner Caleb William's No. 13 jersey. Bush was also inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame.

Bush was investigated and found to have received impermissible benefits which were outlawed by the NCAA at the time, forcing him to vacate his Heisman in 2010. At the same time, the Trojans were stripped of 14 victories, causing them to purge their former star from their lore.

Reggie Bush will walk USC out of the tunnel

Reggie Bush is undoubtedly part of USC Trojans lore having been part of one of the most successful teams of all time. It won two national championships under the tutelage of coach Pete Carroll, between 2003 and 2005.

His last season in Los Angeles saw him win prestigious individual awards, including the Walter Camp Award, the Doak Walker Award and, of course, the crown jewel, the Heisman trophy. Bush is a certified USC legend but he has had to stay away from the program during the prolonged battle to clear his name.

After finally having his Heisman reinstated, during an interview with Fan Sided, Bush revealed that he would lead the team out of the tunnel at some point during the season. However, he did not confirm which team he would do it against.

"It's not even something USC would need to ask me," Bush said. "It's already a yes. That's going to happen. I'm getting chills right now just thinking about it. I've had visions of what I think it's going to look like and feel like, with my kids and my wife being there with me. I can't wait for that day to come and it is going to happen."

Reggie Bush leading out the USC Trojans at the LA Memorial Coliseum would bring the house down. With the momentum that the team has gained from beating the LSU Tigers in the opening game of the season, it would be a huge momentum boost to coach Lincoln Riley's team.
