Arizona State starting QB against Utah

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt will continue being the starting QB of the Arizona State Sun Devils. Leavitt started his college career last season with the Michigan State Spartans. He was backup to Noah Kim, playing four games where he recorded 139 passing yards and two touchdown passes.

Leavitt transferred to the Sun Devils this offseason and was immediately named as the starting QB. In five games, Leavitt has recorded 1,012 passing yards and seven touchdown passes, along with two interceptions.

Kenny Dillingham has huge expectations from the redshirt freshman. On the Sparky Den's Podcast, he talked about Leavitt's learning curve.

"That's an unbelievable start to a career," Dillingham said. "He's getting us into good plays. He's not hurting us from a procedural perspective. All the things that we're kind of taking for granted right now that we haven't faced with a young quarterback is just because of how he carries himself and the work he puts into the process."

"I tell him all the time, this is the worst he's ever going to be. Like, this is the worst QB play we're ever going to have for the next three years because this is the worst he's going to be. He's going to get better and better and better and better and that's the exciting part."

Sam Leavitt initially attended Westview High School as a freshman. He then transferred to West Linn High School for his senior year before committing to Michigan State.

Arizona State's quarterback depth chart

While Sam Leavitt is the QB1 of the Sun Devils, Jeff Sims will serve as backup. Sims began his collegiate career with Georgia Tech back in 2020. He spent three seasons with them before playing for Nebraska last season.

Sims entered the transfer portal and decided to come to Arizona State to play under Kenny Dillingham.

The depth chart also includes senior Cam Skattebo and freshman Navi Bruzon as options. Bruzon joined the program as a part of the 2024 recruiting class, while Skattebo transferred from Sacramento State last season.
