3 interesting things FSU HC Mike Norvell said at ACC Media Days 2024

#1: DJ Uiagalelei's growth since joining Florida State via the transfer portal

Following Jordan Travis' departure to the NFL, the Florida State Seminoles used the transfer portal to land DJ Uiagalelei. Mike Norvell discussed Uiagalelei's growth since joining the program, stating:

"He's done a wonderful job. It was good to see his growth. You see the confidence in the rhythm and the timing. You see those relationships continuing to grow with all the different skill players. Just even in how he is communicating. The confidence and understanding of what we are asking him to do. He's done an incredible job. He's really done a great job of leading by example. Excited to see him take the field."

#2: What position group on each side needs to improve

Mike Norvell also discussed which position groups need to improve on each side of the football. Offensively, he pointed to the wide receivers, stating:

"I think when you look at both sides of the ball there is great opportunity. I think the receiver position is one I'm really excited about. I'm excited about the guys we have in the room, but who is going to emerge? Who is going to take that step? Who is going to be the consistency of performance? The execution? When you need the play, who is ready to rise up and be that consistent go-to guy?"

Defensively, he wants to see growth from the front-seven:

"When you look at the core, the defensive front, linebacker - how that all gels together. I am excited about the personnel once again. I think we have two of the best defensive tackles not only in the conference but in the country. Our defensive end position is as deep as it has been with some unbelievable playmakers, guys that can absolutely change the game. The linebacker position is definitely as deep and talented as we've had... Who is going to establish themselves? Who is going to take that next step to go out there and be the gamechanger that I know they can be?"

#3: Praised the summer program

Mike Norvell also took the time to praise the offseason summer program, stating:

"I thought it was a great summer. The commitment from our players, the investment you saw them pouring into not only the work - what they were doing on the field, in the weight room. Just really the continued investment in building those relationships.
"We know we have a heck of a journey in front of us, but to see guys continuing to grow, taking the ownership of what they are doing in the meeting room, continuing to pour into each other. Everybody is working on gaining their understanding of things we are asking them to do and just the overall application of being able to go and get that done." [h/t 247 Sports]
