NC State starting QB projections 2024: Who will be Dave Doeren's QB1?

Dave Doeren will enter his 12th season with NC State in 2024. The coach has racked up an 81-58 record with the Wolfpack thus far but is yet to win a division title or conference title.

While Doeren is still on the hunt for a major championship with NC State, he needs to make an important decision on his starting quarterback for the 2024 season.

Predicting Dave Doeren's starting quarterback at NC State for 2024

As things stand, Grayson McCall is expected to get the nod as the starting quarterback at NC State for the 2024 season. The signal-caller is also going to represent the Wolfpack at the team's media day on Thursday along with coach Dave Doeren.

McCall transferred to NC State this offseason after playing five years at Coastal Carolina. He racked up a whopping 10,005 passing yards on 710 passes with 88 touchdowns. The quarterback also rushed for 18 touchdowns across 42 games during his stint with the Chanticleers.

McCall has the experience of playing college football for several years and has proven himself as a more than reliable option. He was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year on three occasions from 2020-2022.

Furthermore, McCall is potentially entering his final collegiate season before entering the NFL draft. He will want to make this year count and boost his draft stock. Winning a major title with the Wolfpack also won't do him any harm.

While all signs point toward McCall leading NC State's offense in 2024, there is a strong case for freshman Cedrick Bailey to be named as his backup.

Bailey committed to the Wolfpack on the back of a successful high school career at Chaminade-Madonna Prep. The quarterback won three straight state titles and will be eager to improve his game under coach Doeren.

The NC State Wolfpack also have Lex Thomas in their ranks, who is considered the team's third-choice quarterback.
