Kalen DeBoer is facing a tough situation at work in terms of job security, as the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide lost to No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at Neyland Stadium. The Alabama faithful are growing restless. Having seen 17 prosperous years under Nick Saban, they don’t know how to deal with such a situation.

One of the main questions making the rounds on the internet is how much it would cost the University of Alabama to part ways with the coach if things don’t improve. Let's look at the figures of Kalen DeBoer contract buyout in case he gets fired.

Kalen DeBoer contract buyout

If Alabama decides to fire DeBoer without cause, the coach will still receive 90% of his remaining contract in monthly installments until the end of his term. He earns $10 million annually, and his salary will increase by $250,000 annually until $11.75 million in 2031.

However, if DeBoer chooses to leave Alabama, the buyout clause decreases over time. Alabama must funnel $5 million in 2024, $4 million in 2025 and $3 million in 2026. The University of Alabama will have no DeBoer payments on its balance sheet after 2027.

The former Washington coach remains among the highest-paid college football coaches, alongside big names like Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.
