Deion Burks 2025 NFL draft projection

Oklahoma's football has a new star wide receiver in Deion Burks. The wide receiver started his college career at Purdue in 2021 and played three seasons with the Boilermakers.

Despite many offers, he was swayed into joining the Sooners by the wide receiver coach, Emmett Jones.

"He wanted to go to a program where it’s like the NFL already,” Burks's father told OU Daily.

“He wanted to get better as a receiver, a complete receiver. Emmett Jones is pretty much one of the highly touted receiver coaches, so that was one of the selling points when he came to Oklahoma."

Burks was a track star in high school and as such is blessed with natural speed. He's expected to be one of the top targets for quarterback Jackson Arnold next season. This could be his last season in college football, so we take a look at his draft possibilities.

Deion Burks Draft Projection

Deion Burks possesses strong hands that any NFL franchise would want in a player on its roster. He'a able to track the deep ball over either shoulder, catching passes fluidly without breaking stride.

His vertical straight-line speed is a nightmare for opposing defenses, and he can stretch the field from the slot while opening up the intermediate areas for other receivers.

Deion Burks has quick feet and good explosions out of his breaks. He has shown the ability to make tough catches with good body control and hand-eye coordination.

He's a very skilled prospect who has good fundamentals and has made clutch plays in big games. He should be an early impact guy in the slot but should not be viewed as only a slot, as he has been effective as an outside receiver in high school.

Burks is viewed as an early-round prospect who could go in the first round in 2025. Much depends on his performance with the Sooners in the upcoming season.

Deion Burks' college career so far

Deion Burks spent the past three seasons at Purdue. In 2022, Burks played all 14 games and had 15 receptions for 149 yards.

He was Purdue's leading receiver in 2023, recording 47 receptions for 629 yards and seven touchdowns. He was named second-team All-Big Ten.

Oklahoma Sooners already have a formidable group of receivers, but Burks turned heads at the spring game. He had five catches, 174 yards and two cross-country touchdown catches. He sprinted easily away from his markers on both a 64-yard TD catch and a 50-yard scoring grab.
