Cam Rising's injury timeline

Coming out of Newbury Park High School, Rising began his collegiate career with Texas in 2018. He redshirted his freshman season before transferring to Utah in 2019. He redshirted that season as well before competing for the starting QB job with Jake Bentley in 2020.

2020: Shoulder injury against USC

While Bentley got the QB1 responsibility, Rising played as the starter during the season-opener against the USC Trojans. Unfortunately, in the second half of the game, Rising was sacked by ex-USC DT Marlon Tuipulotu.

When he tried to recover the ball, Rising found himself caught underneath multiple players resulting in him injuring his shoulder. This led to him missing out on the rest of the season and undergoing the process of rehabilitation. Jake Bentley played out the rest of the season for Utah and led them to a 3-2 campaign.

2021: Concussing during the Rose Bowl game

He initially lost the QB1 competition to Charlie Brewer during the 2021 season. However, he was named as the starter after two games for the rest of the season. Rising led the Utes to a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the Rose Bowl game.

Unfortunately, in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl game against Ohio State, the quarterback slammed his head hard on the turf during a play. This led to him suffering from a concussion and he was sidelined from the rest of the game. The Buckeyes emerged victorious with a 48-45 final score.

2022: Major knee injury during the Rose Bowl game

Rising returned as a starter for the Utah Utes during the 2022 season. He was once again successful in leading them to a Pac-12 championship and a Rose Bowl showdown against Penn State.

Unfortunately during the Penn State showdown, the quarterback suffered a serious knee injury. He tore multiple ligaments in his knee (meniscus, MPFL, MCL, and ACL) during the game. He underwent surgery to recover from his injury and had to miss out on the entire 2023 season as a part of his rehabilitation process.

Cam Rising missed out on 3 games this season due to a hand injury

Rising returned for his seventh collegiate campaign this season with Utah after recovering from his knee injury. Unfortunately, during their week 2 game against Baylor, the quarterback suffered another unfortunate incident when he injured his throwing hand.

Cam Rising was sidelined for three games after which he made his comeback this week against Arizona State. Unfortunately, he did not have a great game, recording a total of 209 passing yards and three interceptions as Utah lost 27-19.

It will be interesting to see if head coach Kyle Whittingham replaces him with freshman Isaac Wilson for the rest of the season.
