The 2024 college football season is set to enter Week 6, and some coaches are already feeling the pressure. Week 5 saw some of the country's best teams be upset, and the coaches are normally the first ones to take the heat.

There are a handful of coaches who are already on the hot seat. With seven games remaining in the regular season, these coaches will look to turn it around to avoid facing criticism and continued pressure.

5 college football coaches on the hot seat after Week 5

Hugh Freeze, Auburn

Hugh Freeze has his Auburn Tigers sitting at just 2-3 despite a top 20 recruiting class in 2023 and a top 10 recruiting class in 2024. Auburn has only managed wins over FCS member Alabama A&M and New Mexico, and things won't get any easier. Auburn goes on the road to play No. 5 Georgia in Week 6 and No. 9 Missouri in Week 7.

If the Tigers fail to make a bowl game, Hugh Freeze is likely out as Auburn's coach after a 6-7 record in 2023.

Mike Norvell

It's hard to put a coach of Norvell's caliber on a hot seat list, but it'd be even harder to justify leaving him off given Florida State's start to the season. Many expected the Seminoles to be contenders in a wide-open Atlantic Coast Conference after a 13-1 record in 2023, but that's been anything but the case in 2024. This is, by far, the worst Florida State has looked under Norvell, and the road ahead will be tough after a 1-4 start.

Billy Napier

Another Southeastern Conference team with high standards that has done all but live up to those immense expectations, the Florida Gators are just 2-2 on the season and 13-16 under Billy Napier. The upcoming schedule will only get tougher, with five Top 25 opponents left on the schedule. If the Gators can't earn a bowl game bid, bringing Napier back will be difficult for Florida.

Dave Aranda

Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears are long removed from the 12-2 campaign in 2021. Since then, Baylor is just 11-19, and things are only getting worse. With a 2-3 start, Aranda's defense is allowing nearly 300 yards per game and has given up 72 points over the last two games. It would likely take a miraculous run from the Bears to finish the season to justify keeping Aranda around.

P.J. Fleck

This is a tough argument to make, as P.J. Fleck has led the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 5-0 record in bowl games since his hiring ahead of the 2017 season.

The argument against Fleck? Minnesota has already reached its ceiling under Fleck and is highly unlikely to return. The Gophers have won more than 10 games just once under Fleck and are set to see a similar performance to their 6-7 record in 2023. With a 2-3 start, Fleck's time is dwindling in Minnesota.
