The SEC remains – and EA Sports College Football 25 can attest – the toughest conference in college football. But College Football 25 reflects a Southeastern Conference without a true incumbent superstar running back coming into the season. The league has some tough backs but lacks an obvious superstar.

Here are EA's picks for the five best running backs of the SEC.

#5, Montrell Johnson Jr. (Florida, 87 rating overall)

Johnson transferred to Florida following his old Louisiana coach Billy Napier. Napier has struggled at UF, but Johnson has been solid. Last season, he rushed for 817 yards and five touchdowns. Last year, Florida was 3-2 when Johnson got 15 or more carries and just 2-5 when he didn't. The 5-foot-11 217-pounder will be key to the Gators' 2024 season.

#4, Ja'Quinden Jackson (Arkansas, 87)

A transfer from Utah (four of the five players on this list are transfers), Jackson rushed for 797 yards and four scores last season with the Utes. At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Jackson will be a grinding, physical runner for Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks. When Jackson had 13 or more carries, Utah was 5-0 last year. When he didn't, they went just 3-5. Jackson can boost Arkansas.

#3, Trevor Etienne (Georgia, 88)

At just 5-9, Etienne isn't a bruiser, but he is a sprinter. A transfer from Florida, Etienne rushed for 753 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago, putting up 5.8 yards per carry for a 5-7 team. Etienne often seemed underused, topping 15 carries just twice, in a 172-yard performance against Tennessee and with 99 yards and three scores against LSU. He'll be even better behind Georgia's offensive line.

#2, Raheim Sanders (South Carolina, 89)

While Arkansas added an impressive power back in Jackson, it lost its own in Sanders, who went to South Carolina. Sanders was beset by injuries in 2023, rushing for just 209 yards on 62 carries. But in 2022, he was healthy and ran for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns. At 6-2, 225, Sanders can run over or past defenders. He could be the SEC's top rusher in 2024.

#1, Jarquez Hunter (Auburn, 90)

The 5-10 Hunter is EA's top-rated SEC running back this year. Hunter rushed for 909 yards and seven scores last year, picking up 5.7 yards per carry for a 6-7 team. When Hunter got more than 15 carries, Auburn went 3-1, including a one-score loss to Georgia. When he didn't, they were 3-6.

Consecutive 100-yard games against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas showed Hunter's skills. Hugh Freeze needs a big season from Hunter, and EA seems to like his chances.
