3 ACC teams the Big 12 could target in its next expansion phase

#1. Florida State

Florida State is undoubtedly one of the biggest programs the Big 12 could target in its next phase of expansion. The Seminoles are intensively pushing to leave the ACC and have even filed a lawsuit against the conference in a bid to ensure that happens in the near future.

The SEC and Big Ten have been viewed as the likely destination for the Seminoles for now, but the probability of that is decreasing. According to reports, the SEC will not add a team from a state they currently have a member, while the Big Ten will reportedly only add schools with Association of America Universities accreditation.

This presents a huge opportunity for Brett Yormark to bring in Florida State into the Big 12 roster in its next expansion phase. The league and school are reportedly in discussion through third parties.

#2. Clemson

Clemson is another school the Big 12 might get an opportunity to add to its fold in the ongoing phase of conference realignment. The Tigers are in a similar situation as the Seminoles, giving the conference an avenue to effectively replace Texas and Oklahoma.

Without a doubt, Clemson is one of the most reputable programs in college football over the years. The Tigers have played in the national championship game four times in the last 10 years and were victorious on two occasions, presenting them as a valuable expansion candidate.

The Tigers are rumored to have had discussions with the Big 12 via third parties and it's reported that there's confidence on both sides that a compromise can be reached.

#3. North Carolina

North Carolina joined Florida State and Clemson to vote against the expansion of the conference on both occasions last summer when Stanford, Cal and SMU were brought in.

The Tar Heels are considered a hot expansion candidate in the ongoing waves of conference realignment. Reports suggest that the school is under the consideration of the SEC and the Big Ten due to the market opportunities.

With both conferences currently not active on their expansion plans, the Big 12 could take advantage of the situation and bring North Carolina into its expansion plans.
