Washington Huskies' Great Osobor bags series of preseason honors

Great Osobor transferred to the Washington Huskies this offseason and is already making his mark within the team. On Friday, the reigning Mountain West Player of the Year was selected by the Blue Ribbon Yearbook to the preseason All-Big Ten and All-America teams.

The 6-foot-8 senior forward spent two seasons with Montana State and one year with Utah State before choosing the Huskies for his final college season, following coach Danny Sprinkle to each school. Last year, he averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 assists.

"I would like to thank God for putting me in this position," Osobor said of his transfer (via ESPN). "Washington will allow me to maximize my potential as a player in my final year of college basketball.

"Coach (Danny) Sprinkle has been with me every step of the way since I came from England, and I cannot wait to help the Huskies get back to the NCAA tournament."

Great Osobor hopes to set an example for young kids with his college career

As a returning forward, Great Osobor is set to earn nearly $2 million in name, image and likeness, per USA Today. The forward is reported to have the highest-known valuation in college basketball for the upcoming season. Having traveled from across the pond from Bilsborrow, England, Osobor hopes to be a role model for his younger siblings.

"It's a blessing to be put in the position I am in now, and I look forward to using my platform to proudly represent my family and be a role model to my two younger sisters," he said.

"I was not a highly recruited player coming out of England, with only a few Division I offers. Assistant coach Chris Haslam had a huge part in recruiting me to Montana State, and I owe him a lot for that. I am more motivated than ever to show young kids that it doesn't matter where you come from."

He credited his rise to his hard work and sacrifice as he left his family to move to Montana. Great Osobor's father is a taxi driver while his mother is a caregiver for the elderly.

At Washington, Osobor joins other talented transfer signees like Mekhi Mason, DJ Davis, Luis Kortright, Franck Kepnang and Tyler Harris as they help the Huskies navigate a new conference in the Big Ten due to the offseason realignment.

This is Great Osobor's final chance to stamp his name among the best as he will navigate his professional career next year.
