"Proud of you": Former Iowa star Gabbie Marshall celebrates ROTY Caitlin Clark's latest WNBA achievement

After her surprise visit to the Iowa Hawkeyes to meet Jada Gyamfi, Gabbie Marshall ensured Caitlin Clark got her love too. On Wednesday, the Indiana Fever guard was honored with an All-WNBA First Team selection for her rookie WNBA season.

So, when the Fever posted the update on their Instagram handle, Marshall wasted no time in reposting it to her story. Marshall also captioned the repost with a short message for Caitlin Clark.

"Proud of you 🤍 @caitlinclark22," Marshall wrote.

Despite a slow start to her career, Clark won the Rookie of the Year award. However, her All-WNBA First Team selection is an equally monumental recognition, as it makes her the first rookie in the last 16 years to clinch the honor.

The last one to be recognized on the All-WNBA First Team was Candace Parker in 2008. Other players with a similar feat include Tamika Catchings, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.

Moreover, Clark received 52 first-team votes. It made her the fourth-most-voted player for the selection. A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart and Alyssa Thomas were the other four on the first team.

Marshall and Clark fell short of perfectly ending their amazing run with the Hawkeyes as they lost to South Carolina in the national championship. It looked like a possibility when Iowa led 27-20 at the first buzzer. Nevertheless, for the two guards, their one-of-a-kind journey was more about making memories and appreciating their run.

"I'm glad it was the last game of the season, I think we all are," Gabbie Marshall said after losing to the Gamecocks in the NCAA Finals, per NCAA.com. "We've had as many games as we can possibly have with each other in the last year. So, it was just a way for us to make more memories together, accomplish more, stick together."

"Yeah, I'm sad we lost this game, but I'm also so proud of myself, I'm so proud of my teammates, I'm so proud of this program. There's a lot to be proud of," Clark said after the loss at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Caitlin Clark and Gabbie Marshall were monumental pieces in making the Hawkeyes a national brand. Clark's impact is known. She singlehandedly filled arenas on the road, sold out season tickets, and changed the landscape of women's basketball.

Marshall displayed signs of becoming a true point guard in the 2020-21 season, netting her career highs of 9.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals on 45.3% shooting. However, she then altered her role on the Hawkeyes for the program's success, turning into a 3&D specialist.
