William Schmidt got cold feet about the MLB, and that's good news for the LSU Tigers. Hours before the start of the 2024 MLB Draft, the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in the class of 2024, according to Perfect Game, decided to forgo the event.

That's great news for the LSU Tigers, to whom Schmidt is committed. The player and school celebrated the news with a post calling for a new natty for Baton Rouge.

Tigers' fans were delighted with the news.

"Yes!! Young man, wise decision!" one fan said.

However, some don't think that making the decision just a few hours ahead of the event is a good look.

"Not a good look making this decision hours before the draft," a fan said.
"Nooooooooo you were supposed to go to the Braves," a fan said.

Fans of the LSU Tigers were in general ecstatic about William Schmidt's decision.

"Proud of you my boy!" one fan said.

LSU goes with zero players drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft: Tigers kept William Schmidt but weren't highly rated in the night

Despite being one of the top baseball schools in the nation, the LSU Tigers had no players drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft on Sunday night. Tommy White was the player with the highest chance of being selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft, with some experts even having him going as high as 21 with the Minnesota Twins.

In the end, neither Minnesota nor any other team for that matter, thought White had what it takes to become a first-round pick. He ended up becoming a second-round pick by the Oakland As, with the 40th overall pick.

Second baseman Travis Bazzana from Oregon State was the first overall pick by the Cleveland Guardians. Righty Chase Burns from Wake Forest was the second overall pick, with the Reds picking him over Georgia's Charlie Condon, who went third and is now on his way to the Colorado Rockies.
