The world's first and largest official franchise chess league, Global Chess League is all set for its second edition, starting on Thursday, October 3, at Friends House in Central London. The grand finale is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 12.
A total of six franchises are scheduled to take part in the second edition. Alpine SG Pipers, American Gambits, Ganges Grandmasters, Mumba Masters, PBG Alaskan Knights, and Triveni Continental Kings are the six franchises part of the competition.
Notably, American Gambits are the new franchise this season, replacing the Chingari Gulf Titans. It’s worth noting that Triveni Continental Kings will enter the edition as the defending champions after defeating Mumba Masters in the final last year.
Each franchise will have an icon player, two male players, and as many female players with a player who is 21 years old or younger. The tournament follows a double round-robin format, with each team playing the other sides twice, once with each color.
The Global Chess League 2024 will have 20 minutes of time control for the whole game without increment. The points system includes four game points after bagging a win with the black pieces, three game points with white pieces, and one game point for a draw.
The top two sides with the most match points at the end of the double round-robin stage in the Global Chess League 2024 qualify for the final, scheduled to be played in two matches. There will be blitz playoffs scheduled in case of a tie.
