Estonian-American bodybuilder, fitness model and social media personality David Laid went vegan more than three years ago and stayed so for some time. For bodybuilders, fitness influencers, and even non-athletes, sourcing the required amounts of protein from a plant-based diet is generally considered difficult. However, Laid decided to go vegan nonetheless and his decision was the talk all over the internet.

On deciding to go the vegan way, Laid talked about its various benefits and also touched upon the fact of not killing animals unnecessarily for meat products. He said on his YouTube channel 'David Laid' after just starting on a vegan diet a month ago:

"I am feeling really really good. Things that I can notice is - way easier to get up in the morning, way more energy, enthusiasm, vibrance throughout the day...I have sustained energy throughout the day...I have lost five to seven pounds."

On the subject of animals, he said:

"There's something good about not killing animals unnecessarily."

Another reason stated by Laid for going vegan was his understanding of vegan diets having substantial anti-inflammatory effects. He explained:

"Vegan diets have substantial anti-inflammatory effects and the lower back issue that I am trying to heal right now (arthrosis); it is going to accelerate healing of my body."

Make gradual, not drastic changes in your diet, says David Laid

David Laid stated that one shouldn't make a drastic change to diet by going vegan. Instead one should gradually make the shift to let the body get accustomed to the change. He said via the aforementioned video:

"If you're also considering making a drastic change in your diet, going vegan, I'll probably recommend making a slow and gradual transition because you don't want to shock your body. Your body is accustomed to a certain gut microbiome to digest what you've been eating for a while so your body is used to it.

He further explained:

"If you just make an abrupt change, its going to cause issues and complications. But I'm an extremist - I love doing things in an extreme fashion; so after months and years of eating pounds of red meat a day, I decided - That's it, I'm going vegan. From that day, I haven't consumed a single animal product," he said on the same video.
