Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito of the 1988 movie 'Twins' fame have earned a nomination at this year's Emmy awards for a Super Bowl commercial that they featured in together.

The 'Twins' still remain one of the most iconic duos in Hollywood. Despite sharing the silver screen together for nearly four decades now, ‘Arnie’ and DeVito have managed to create headlines once again.

A few weeks ago, the duo worked together on a short commercial for Super Bowl LVIII. While the advertisement instantly received immense appreciation from fans, it has recently been nominated for an Emmy as well.

But wait a minute…how can a commercial be nominated for an Emmy award? Well, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito are fighting for the 'Outstanding Commercial' category at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito’s ‘Twins’ plot

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito haven't acted together in a movie for almost four decades now. Released in the late 80s, ‘Twins’ instantly broke records and still lives rent free in the hearts of film aficionados.

Playing complete opposite characters in terms of personality and appearance, Schwarzenegger played Julius Benedict and DeVito played Vincent Benedict. The movie won several plaudits and performed incredibly well at the box office, earning a whopping $216 million globally.

Additionally, what made the movie so special was Arnold Schwarzenegger's versatility. While he had already proved his mettle as an action hero in Hollywood by that point, Schwarzenegger was warned against acting in comedy movies. But, Arnold being Arnold, he took it as another challenge.

He went up to the director of the movie, Ivan Reitman, and told him that he wasn't looking for a hefty paycheck for this role. Instead, he wanted part ownership of the movie. As revealed by the Austrian Oak in a podcast hosted by NFL brothers Jason and Travis Kelce named New Heights, Schwarzenegger stated:

“I said, don’t pay me. Just make me be part owner of the film…I take the risk just like you take the risk, and sure enough, I made more money on that movie like in any other movie.” (08:54)

Fast forward to this year, the duo’s State Farm Super Bowl commercial again brought things to a standstill. It has been nominated alongside commercials starring the likes of Robert De Niro and Michael Cera.

Apple, who won last year, have also been nominated for the award. It seems that the ‘Twins’ are once again in a tough battle against one of the world's biggest multinational corporations. Only time will tell if Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito will come out victorious.
