Seven-time Mr. Olympia champion Phil Heath is one of the best athletes in the realm of bodybuilding history. Flaunting humongous pecs on stage during his prime years, ‘The Gift’ has trained with ‘The Pro Creator’ Hany Rambod during his peak bodybuilding days.

Heath has decades of experience under his belt. Having trained with bodybuilding icons like Rambod, he never hesitates in sharing his training secrets with his fans to help them out.

In a recent Instagram post, Phil Heath talked about the perfect way to do cable crossovers. Admitting that the movement is his favorite for building a good chest, Heath shared three secrets to performing it properly.

The first step according to Heath is to have an optimal foot position. Perfecting the foot positioning itself can help a ton in building proper mind-muscle connection.

He wrote:

“So many people stand with their feet together…you need to have one foot in front of the other as this allows a solid base and ensures more focus on the muscle.”

Continuing further, Phil Heath explained the importance of having good form and posture while attempting cable crossovers, writing:

“ENGAGE THE RIGHT MUSCLE.. the lower back should be engaged this allows you to lift and raise K your chest up for the ultimate squeeze.”

The third and last step according to Heath is to focus on achieving a good contraction as well as stretch. Multiple scientific studies have previously proved that the most important part of a rep is the stretch. He said:

“BARE HUG.. it should feel like you are bare hugging the movement not behind the elbows so much and allowing for the chest to open nice and wide giving the best contraction of the muscle because that's what it's all about.”

Apart from just the physical aspects, Heath also frequently talks about the importance of good mental health. Having gone through his share of battles with mental health issues, he uses his influence and platform to spread awareness.

Posting an Instagram story back in April, Heath advised his fans to look out for each other.

“Men… Check on your bros! Ask them if they’re okay, hold space for them and listen if they need an ear…Women… Be there for your sisters, hold space for them, they’re not your competition,” Heath wrote (via Essentially Sports).

Despite his retirement from the sport decades ago, Heath remains one of the biggest influences in the realm of bodybuilding.
