The film's success made it to international fame and laid the foundation for one of the most popular franchises in cinematic history back then.

In the year 1991, Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared again in his role as the Terminator in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" directed again by James Cameron, but this time his character was reprogrammed to protect John Connor - the future leader of the human resistance.

He was 43 years old when he brought his new depth to the role of the Terminator with a more humanized and protective side.

He returned as the Terminator in the movie entitled "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" released in 2003 and directed by a new director Jonathan Mostow. In this movie, Schwarzenegger was already 55 years old but he was still able to deliver a powerful performance in the action movie despite his age.

In 2015, Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the franchise in "Terminator Genisys" directed by Alan Taylor. This film introduced a new timeline with Arnold playing an age version of the Terminator referred to as 'pops'. He was 67 years old and the film was well-received by the fans.

The most recent addition, "Terminator: Dark Fate" was released in 2019 and was directed by Tim Miller. This film ignored the events of the previous sequels and serves as a direct follow-up to "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". Arnold Schwarzenegger, aged 72, reprises his role as the Terminator which now lives as a more human-like existence under the name Carl.
